Recycle Day

 Recycle Day

Recycling is a key part of the circular economy. It also helps to protect our natural resources.

Mission of Global Recycling Day, as set out by the Global Recycling Foundation, is twofold:

1. To tell world leaders that recycling is simply too important not to be a global issue, and that a common, joined up approach to recycling is urgently needed.

2. To ask people across the planet to think resource, not waste, when it comes to the goods around us – until this happens, we simply won’t award recycled goods the true value and repurpose they deserve.

“As a young generation, we need to protect our environment, save our earth.”

Every year, the people of Planet Earth produce 2.1B metric tons of solid waste. 16% of that is recycled, saving 700M metric tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, 46% of that trash, enough to completely fill 368,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, is disposed of unsustainably meaning landfilled, incinerated, and littered or illegally dumped in the environment.

  •  TYPES OF RECYCLING BINS

The recycling bins are provided by the government to dispose the recyclable things. In Malaysia, there are three colours of recycling bins which are brown, blue, and orange. Each colour of the bins represents different uses.

1) Brown bin

Used for disposing the glass.

Such as food containers, soft drink bottles and cosmetic bottles.

2) Blue bin

Used for disposing the paper.

Such as envelopes, cardboard boxes, brochures, calendars, newspapers, books and magazines.

3) Orange bin

Used for disposing the aluminium tins, plastic, and steel tins.

Such as soft drink tins and food product tins, food containers, shopping plastic bags, detergent bottles, mineral water bottles, and bottle drinks.

The Environmental Protection

How to cultivate children's environmental awareness:

Methods/steps:

1. Take the children to watch the public service advertisement together.

Television has a public service advertisement about the protection of the earth. For example, the advertisement about not leftovers, which is particularly popular with children. It touched public a lot. When I saw it, I could discuss it with the children. Most children will say that they don't want to see the earth as shown in advertisement. At the same time, parents or teachers can tell the children about the ways to protect our earth together. This kind of public service advertisement is very effective in cultivating children's awareness of environmental protection.

2. Pick up trash with the kids.

As we know, the rubbish can be found in everywhere, such as in public place where children often play and at the tourist center. The rubbish will destroy the landscape of environment and pollute the environment. As an adult we need to ask children to pick up the rubbish and throw it into the trash. Besides, the adult need to be a model for them to protect our earth. For example, organize the activity “Gotong-royong” at the seaside or other tourist center.

3. Turn off the lights and save water.

Teach children to turn off the lights for saving electricity when they are young. Besides, children need to turn off the tap after they wash their hands for saving water. When children are young, they all have a common question, “what will happen after wasting the electricity and water?” At this time, teachers or parents can take this opportunity to tell children the harm of wasting water and electricity. Even though the child may not understand, but it is an opportunity to develop their good habits. So that they will have the awareness of environmental protection when they grow up.

4. Plant a tree with your child once a year.

Every Arbor Day, parents can lead children to plant a tree surrounding their house. They can make a mark at the tree after planted the tree. Every day, they can go for a look to water and fertilize the tree when they play at the outdoor. This activity is not only can protect the environment and foster children’s patience but can trigger the sense of achievement of the children. It also can stimulate the desire of children to protect the earth.

5. Work with your kids to make crafts out of junk.

There are many kinds of garbage, such as mineral water bottles, leaves, and old paper boxes, can be used to make crafts. Changing waste into treasure is fun and environmental awareness with your children.

Note: environmental protection needs us all together, parents must be a model to lead the child have a good awareness of environmental protection from childhood.
